Ayurvedic Treatment for PCOS and Infertility in Women
Dr.Ajay Krishna P B.A.M.S
In PCOS, the ovaries make too much of a hormone called androgen. This hormone stops eggs from maturing properly, leading to issues with egg release. This can make it harder for a woman to get pregnant. PCOS is often seen in women of reproductive age.
The ovaries in PCOS are bigger than usual and have many small cysts (fluid-filled sacs). This makes the ovaries look different from normal. People with PCOS might have irregular periods, along with signs like Hirsutism , acne, Hair Fall. Obesity and difficulty getting pregnant due to irregular ovulation are also common.
Overall, PCOS is a condition that affects how a woman’s body handles hormones and can cause various symptoms like irregular periods, excess hair, and fertility problems.
In Ayurveda, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is linked to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha. Ayurveda sees three doshas as vital role in the female menstrual cycle. Vata dosha moves ovarian follicles, Pitta dosha affects hormones, and Kapha dosha nourishes.
PCOS in Ayurveda happens when excessive Kapha disrupts Vata and Pitta. This begins by affecting digestion, causing impurities to accumulate, leading to toxins in the body. Cysts form due to these impurities in plasma and blood tissues.
The dosha imbalance, especially Kapha overpowering Vata and Pitta, upsets hormones and nutrient supply to follicles. This leads to
- Irregular periods
- Hormonal imbalance
- Ovarian cysts.
In most of the cases, PCOS is identified after initial ignoring to early symptoms, eventually progressing to infertility.
Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle Changes to Cure Infertility
Many young adults today are worried about having trouble having babies because of a condition called PCOS. This is often caused by unhealthy habits and ways of living that affect how our bodies work. Not eating well, not having proper, and feeling stressed can make it hard for women with PCOS to get pregnant. It’s important to know that the way we live can impact our ability to have babies.
According to Ayurveda, infertility can arise when a person’s reproductive tissue, known as Shukra dhatu, lacks proper nourishment.
The Ayurvedic approach to addressing infertility involves focusing on the healthy development of the reproductive tissue, or Shukra dhatu. The food we consume gets processed in the body and provides nourishment to all the body’s tissues in a specific sequence: starting with the Rasa dhatu, progressing Rakta dhatu , then to Mamsa Dhatu, followed by Medo dhatu, Asthi Dhatu, Majja Dhatu, and ultimately, Shukra Dhatu. This sequential nourishment is essential. Therefore, even medications might not be effective if dietary habits are not properly observed.
