Best Ayurvedic Psoriasis Treatment in Kerala
Psoriasis is a long-lasting skin problem that makes your skin get red, dry, and thick. It often happens on your elbows, knees, and scalp. If you don’t treat it early or use the right medicine, it can get worse. The Ayurvedic system has helpful treatments for psoriasis, which can help cure it completely.
What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a skin issue where skin cells grow way too quickly, about 10 times faster than normal. This makes bumpy patches show up on the skin. On lighter skin, these patches might be red with white scales, and on darker skin, they can look purplish, violet, or brown with grey scales. These patches can pop up anywhere on the body, but they often show up on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back.
Types of psoriasis:
- Plaque Psoriasis:
- Description: The most common type, also called psoriasis vulgaris.
- Appearance: Raised and inflamed, red patches covered in silver scales.
- Common Areas: Often seen on elbows, knees, scalp, hands, feet, and lower back.
- Guttate Psoriasis:
- Description: Named from the Latin word “Gutta” meaning “Droplets.”
- Appearance: Small psoriatic papules, usually occurring after a streptococcal infection.
- Common Areas: Mainly on the trunk of the body and nearby areas.
- Inverse Psoriasis:
- Description: Typically found in folded areas like armpits, groin, elbows, or knees.
- Appearance: Glossy red patches of rashes.
- Pustular Psoriasis:
- Description: Considered a serious type with pus-filled lesions and red borders.
- Common Areas: Often found on hands and feet.
- Psoriatic Arthritis:
- Description: Involves inflammation and rashes in joints, known as Dactylitis (inflammation in entire fingers and toes).
- Effects: Can cause deformation of nails and joints, and is generally the most painful form.

Benefits of Ayurvedic Psoriasis Treatment
Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition where skin cells build up rapidly, causing discomfort. Though there’s no cure, different methods can help manage it. In Ayurveda, a balanced diet and lifestyle are emphasized, avoiding triggers. Panchakarma involves detox procedures like Vamana and Basti. Shamana focuses on symptom relief through herbs and lifestyle changes. Rasayana aims at rejuvenation with specific herbs and practices. Yoga and pranayama are recommended to manage stress, a potential trigger for psoriasis.
By addressing the root causes, managing symptoms, and promoting general well-being, this integrative approach offers a more holistic and beneficial path for those dealing with psoriasis.
Panchakarma Treatment for Psoriasis
Psoriasis, a chronic skin condition, arises from imbalances in the fundamental elements of the body, primarily Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. This dermatological challenge, characterized by its persistent nature, necessitates a comprehensive and specialized approach to treatment. At the core of this therapeutic strategy lies Shodhana, a purification therapy crucial for addressing the root cause of psoriasis and achieving effective results. By focusing on harmonizing and purifying the imbalances within these doshas, Shodhana not only alleviates the visible symptoms but also strives to prevent the recurrence of this challenging skin disorder.
Key Purification Treatments (Shodhana Karma):
Vamana (Emesis):
- Indicated for Kapha dosha predominance in psoriasis.
- Administered every fortnight if lesions affect the upper body.
Virechana (Purgation):
- Recommended for Pitta predominance, especially if symptoms affect the lower body.
- Daily purgation for 5-8 days or until doshas are purified.
Vasti (Enema):
- Even Though Vasti is directly contraindicated by Acharyas (Ancient Scholars) because it aggravates Kushta Rogas (Skin diseases), but still it has been practised by ancient scholars that if Vata dosha is more aggravated, then Vasti is practiced.
Nasya (Nasal Instillation):
- Suitable for cases with Kapha predominance and symptoms in the upper neck region.
- Practiced once every three or seven days.
Recommended Yoga Poses for Psoriasis
Psoriasis and stress have a complicated connection. Stress can make the scaling and symptoms of psoriasis worse, and when symptoms worsen, it can lead to more stress for the person. That’s why it’s crucial for people with psoriasis to find ways to deal with stress and keep their emotions balanced. Strong emotions like anger, anxiety, stress, or trauma can slow down the healing process, so managing stress is essential for better overall well-being. Good ways to reduce stress in both the body and mind include activities like yoga and meditation

- Purpose: Promotes calmness, relieves tension, and reduces stress, which can help prevent psoriasis flare-ups.

- Purpose: Promotes blood flow, potentially aiding in the healing process of the skin.
Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana):
- Benefits: Strengthens legs and buttocks, stretches chest, neck, and spine.
- Purpose: Encourages blood flow, reduces tension and anxiety, helping prevent psoriasis flare-ups.
Fish Pose (Matsyasana):

How Much Does Ayurvedic Psoriasis Treatment Cost
Ayurveda is known for its traditional and authentic approach to treating diseases, addressing both physical and mental aspects. Psoriasis, being an autoimmune disease, impacts a person both physically and mentally. In Ayurveda, treatment varies for each person due to differences in body nature and the unique condition of the disease. The cost depends on factors like the severity and duration of the disease, recommended therapies, and whether personalized herbal formulations or dietary adjustments are included. Providing a fixed cost for Ayurvedic treatments is challenging due to these individualized factors.
